Ritz-Carlton Hotels: The Addresses Worth Booking, Every Ritz-Carlton Reserve and the Bonvoy Math
127 hotels, nine Reserve hideaways and three yachts: the flagships that justify the name, how to tell them from the ones that coast on it, and how to book with the perks attached.
By Biirdee Travel, Luxury Travel Concierge · Updated October 3, 2026

The Ritz-Carlton borrowed its name from César Ritz and its style from the Ritz-Carlton Boston of 1927, but the company most travelers know dates from 1983, when the Boston hotel and the rights to the name were bought and turned into a chain built on a single motto: "Ladies and Gentlemen serving Ladies and Gentlemen." Marriott bought it outright in 1998, and as of mid-2026 it runs 127 Ritz-Carltons (the nine small Ritz-Carlton Reserve resorts included), branded residences, and the Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection's three ships, Evrima, Ilma and Luminara.
One thing to clear up first: the Ritz Paris, on Place Vendôme, has nothing to do with the brand. It is an independent hotel and a Leading Hotels of the World member. Everything below is Marriott's Ritz-Carlton: the hotels we book most, region by region, every Reserve, and how Marriott Bonvoy, Club Level and the STARS advisor program actually work at them. For the brand's closest rival inside Marriott, see St. Regis vs Ritz-Carlton; for the whole group, every Marriott brand.
Ritz-Carlton in Brief
- 127 hotels as of June 2026 (Reserve included), plus residences and three yachts; the brand has been Marriott's since 1998.
- On our own numbers (1 October 2026), Ritz-Carlton is the value pick of the top tier: the lowest recent guest score of the eight luxury brands we could score (8.89 out of 10 across 62 hotels, with 12.3% of guests under 7), but also the lowest median rates ($615, $663 and $676 a night on our November, March and July stays) and breakfast for two at $74–88 a night.
- The variance is real, and it runs by region: Phulay Bay (9.92), Bahrain (9.80), Hong Kong (9.75) and Istanbul (9.74) top our guest scores, while Philadelphia (7.27), Bacara in Santa Barbara (7.34) and a run of US resorts trail, and Central Park, a Forbes Five-Star, scores 8.06.
- Ritz-Carlton Reserve is the ultra-luxury tier: nine small resorts from Phulay Bay (the first, 2009) to Siari in Mexico (late 2025), with Eleuthera, Abu Dhabi and a first urban Reserve in Shanghai announced.
- Bonvoy applies, with caveats: Platinum members get 1,000 points rather than breakfast as their welcome gift, Club Level is a paid room category, and the Reserves exclude elite upgrades. The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore doesn't participate at all.
- Award nights at the top resorts are dynamic: roughly 90,000–165,000 points at the Maldives Fari Islands and 90,000–140,000 in Kyoto, with the fifth night free on five-night stays.
- A STARS advisor booking adds daily breakfast for two, a $100 credit and an upgrade on arrival when available, at the same rate as marriott.com, and still earns Bonvoy points and elite nights.

Ritz-Carlton by Our Numbers
A brand this size is easy to describe and hard to judge, so we measured it. On 1 October 2026 we priced the same stays at every Ritz-Carlton and Ritz-Carlton Reserve we track (96 hotels) through our own booking engine, the one behind hotels.biirdee.com, and scored the 100 most recent verified guest reviews at each hotel ourselves: the mean out of 10, the share of guests scoring 9 or more, and the share scoring under 7. Our test stays are 10–13 November 2026, 27–30 December 2026, 12–15 March 2027 and 15–18 July 2027. Rates are the lowest per night the engine charged at booking on that date (live rates change daily), and taxes the hotel collects at checkout are extra.
The tables below are the brand view. Every hotel's rates, both calendars in full and what breakfast and suites add are on Ritz-Carlton prices; all 62 hotels with enough recent reviews, ranked, are on the best Ritz-Carlton hotels.
The Ritz-Carlton Scorecard
Guest scores are the mean of the 100 most recent verified reviews on our booking platform (out of 10), then the share scoring 9 or more and the share scoring under 7. Rates are our same-dates checks of every hotel on sale; Forbes is the 2026 Star Awards.

How the Ten Brands Compare on Our Numbers
Our own numbers, pulled 1 October 2026: the 100 most recent verified reviews at every hotel with enough of them on our booking platform, the Forbes Travel Guide 2026 ratings, and the lowest rate per night on the same three stays (10–13 Nov 2026, 12–15 Mar 2027, 15–18 Jul 2027) at every hotel each brand had on sale. Aman and Cheval Blanc sell too few rooms online to score.

What the Numbers Say
Read together, the two tables make Ritz-Carlton the value brand of the top tier: cheaper than its rivals, and less consistently loved. Of the eight brands we could score, it has the lowest recent guest score (8.89 across 62 hotels) and the highest share of unhappy guests: 12.3% scored their stay under 7, against 8.2% at Four Seasons and 4.7% at Belmond. It also has the lowest median rates on all three comparison stays ($615, $663 and $676 a night, against $838, $806 and $789 at Four Seasons), and breakfast for two adds $74–88 a night at the median, a lower and tighter band than Four Seasons ($68–247), Mandarin Oriental ($124–200) or Rosewood ($161–225). Forbes rates 21 of the 106 Ritz-Carltons it lists Five-Star, about one in five.
The average hides a wide spread, and it follows geography. The top of our ranking is Asian, Gulf and Reserve: Phulay Bay, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve scored 9.92 with no guest under 7, then Bahrain (9.80), Hong Kong (9.75), Istanbul (9.74), Langkawi (9.67) and Shanghai Pudong (9.65). The bottom is American: Philadelphia (7.27, with 38% of recent guests under 7), Bacara in Santa Barbara (7.34), Atlanta (7.63), Kapalua on Maui (7.66) and Fort Lauderdale (7.77). City by city, among the luxury hotels we scored, a Ritz-Carlton came top in Istanbul, Doha, Shanghai, Riyadh and Geneva, and bottom in New York, Tokyo, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco.
The written reviews say where the points go. Food comes up in 30.1% of them, and those average 8.49 against 8.87 for the rest; the 7.3% that call the hotel dated average 7.02, while reviews that mention the spa or the view score above the brand average (8.98 and 8.97). Business travelers are the hardest graders, at 8.07 against 8.94 from couples. Our reading: choose the hotel, not the badge. In Asia and the Gulf a Ritz-Carlton is often the best-value luxury room in town (in Istanbul it was the cheapest of the five luxury hotels we scored on all four test stays, and the best reviewed); in the US, check the score before you book.
Highest and Lowest Recent Guest Scores
The top five and the bottom of our ranking, by the mean of each hotel's 100 most recent verified reviews (out of 10), then the share scoring 9 or more and the share under 7. Only hotels with at least 50 reviews written since June 2024 qualify: 62 of the 96 we track. A blank Forbes cell means we found no 2026 listing. Full ranking: the best Ritz-Carlton hotels.

When Ritz-Carlton Is Cheapest
Across the brand, mid-December is the time to go: December, which our calendar prices in its third week, before the holidays, was the cheapest month at 27 of the hotels we could price in at least ten months, and the brand-wide median that week was $563 a night, against $705 in June, the dearest month. August came next (the cheapest month at 16 hotels), then April (10). The holiday week itself is another matter: our 27–30 December stay had the highest median of our four test stays, $718.
City by city the pattern shifts. Hong Kong and Istanbul were cheapest in December ($485 and $309), Tokyo in January ($739), and Kyoto bottomed out at $871 in February, July and August against $1,983 in November. Central Park swung furthest, from $1,191 in April to $2,731 in December. Among the resorts, Phulay Bay fell to $717 in May, Dorado Beach to $1,544 in August, and Zadún was cheapest in November at $778, against $2,161 in March.
What Our Desk Books
Our own Ritz-Carlton bookings are a small sample. Recent stays on our desk include three rooms at The Ritz-Carlton New York, Central Park in October, two stays at The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong (one of seven nights, one of a single night), Mexico City and Key Biscayne. Our Hong Kong bookings have typically run about $680–850 a night, against lowest rates of $503–657 on our four test stays. The average Ritz-Carlton stay we book is 2.7 nights, shorter than our Four Seasons average of 4.1, and our agents priced Ritz-Carltons 18 times since June 2026.
Asia and the Pacific
Japan, Hong Kong and the resort coasts, where the brand is at its strongest. Each rate line is the lowest per night across our four test stays (10–13 Nov 2026, 27–30 Dec 2026, 12–15 Mar 2027, 15–18 Jul 2027), priced through our booking engine on 1 October 2026; taxes the hotel collects at checkout are extra, and "suites only" means every standard room was gone.

The Reserves on Our Numbers
Guest score as above: the mean of the 100 most recent verified reviews (out of 10), then the share scoring 9 or more and the share under 7; † marks an older review window. The Reserves are where the brand earns its reputation on our numbers. Phulay Bay is the best-reviewed hotel in the whole portfolio: 9.92, no guest under 7, and the butler comes up in 48% of written reviews, which average 9.95. Mandapa scores 9.77 on an older review window. Both hold MICHELIN's top Three Keys in 2026, as does Nekajui in Costa Rica, promoted this year and the only new Three-Key hotel in the Americas. Mandapa is also No.61 in The 50 Best Hotels 2026, and Nujuma is one of the brand's new Forbes Five-Stars for 2026.
Two caveats. Four of the Reserves sold nothing but suites and villas on every stay we priced (Phulay Bay, Mandapa, Nujuma and Rissai Valley), so there the entry price is a suite price. And they are not uniformly great: Dorado Beach (8.90, with 14% under 7) and Higashiyama Niseko Village (8.52) sit at or below the brand average, on older review windows. Rates swing with the season, too: Niseko ran from $352 a night on our November stay to $3,545 on our 27–30 December one. Nekajui isn't in our data yet.

Club Level, Bonvoy and the Booking Channel
Ritz-Carlton sits inside Marriott Bonvoy, so stays earn points and redemptions are possible almost everywhere (the Millenia Singapore is the exception). The elite rules are stricter here than at most Marriott brands: Platinum members and above receive 1,000 points as their welcome gift instead of breakfast, elite lounge access isn't offered (among Marriott's luxury brands only JW Marriott gives it), and elite upgrades exclude rooms with Club access. The Club Level is therefore a paid room category, and at the flagships it is worth pricing: breakfast, afternoon snacks, evening drinks and canapés through the day can cover the difference for two. At the Reserves, elite upgrades, lounges and 4pm checkout don't apply at all.
On points, the brand's resorts are where Bonvoy earns its keep. Award prices are dynamic, but recent ranges run roughly 90,000–165,000 points a night at the Maldives Fari Islands (with peak dates far higher) and 90,000–140,000 in Kyoto; book five consecutive award nights and the cheapest is free. At 0.6–0.7 cents a point, that beats cash when rates run $1,500 a night and up, and rarely does in a $400 business-city Ritz-Carlton.
For cash stays, the STARS advisor program is the better way to book: daily breakfast for two, a US$100 credit per stay, an upgrade on arrival when available and a welcome amenity, at the marriott.com flexible rate, with Bonvoy points and elite night credit still earned. For a Platinum member, that turns the welcome-gift points into breakfast after all. Marriott's brands and Bonvoy rules has the full detail, and Mandarin Oriental vs Ritz-Carlton and Aman vs Ritz-Carlton weigh the brand against its rivals outside Marriott.
Ritz-Carlton FAQs
How many Ritz-Carlton hotels are there?
127 as of June 2026, according to Marriott, including the nine Ritz-Carlton Reserve resorts. The brand also runs branded residences and the Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection's three ships.
What is Ritz-Carlton Reserve?
Marriott's ultra-luxury tier: nine small resorts in remote places (Phulay Bay, Dorado Beach, Mandapa, Zadún, Higashiyama Niseko Village, Rissai Valley, Nujuma, Nekajui and Siari), with personal butlers. On our 1 October 2026 rate check their cheapest nights ran from $352 (Niseko in November) to $3,618 (Dorado Beach in March), and four of them sold only suites and villas. They book with Bonvoy points, but elite upgrades and lounges don't apply.
How much does a Ritz-Carlton cost per night?
On our 1 October 2026 check, the median Ritz-Carlton's lowest rate was $615 a night for 10–13 November 2026, $718 for 27–30 December, $663 for 12–15 March 2027 and $676 for 15–18 July 2027, before any taxes the hotel collects at checkout. The range is wide: from $151 at The Ritz-Carlton, Chengdu in March and July to $3,618 at Dorado Beach, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve in March, with suite-only nights at a few resorts higher still. Hotel by hotel: Ritz-Carlton prices.
When is Ritz-Carlton cheapest?
Mid-December, before the holidays: December, priced in its third week, was the cheapest month at 27 of the hotels we could price in at least ten months, with a brand-wide median of $563 a night against $705 in June. August came next. Each hotel keeps its own calendar, though: Tokyo was cheapest in January, Central Park in April, and among the resorts Phulay Bay in May, Dorado Beach in August and Zadún in November.
Which Ritz-Carlton has the best guest reviews?
On our scoring of the 100 most recent verified reviews at each hotel, Phulay Bay, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve in Krabi leads with 9.92 out of 10 and no guest scoring under 7, followed by Bahrain (9.80), Hong Kong (9.75), Istanbul (9.74), Langkawi (9.67) and Shanghai Pudong (9.65). The lowest are all in the US: Philadelphia (7.27), Bacara in Santa Barbara (7.34) and Atlanta (7.63). Full ranking: the best Ritz-Carlton hotels.
How much does breakfast cost at a Ritz-Carlton?
Usually it is extra: the cheapest rate already included breakfast at only 16–21% of hotels on our four test stays. Adding breakfast for two to the same room cost a median $74–88 a night, a lower band than at Four Seasons ($68–247), Mandarin Oriental ($124–200) or Rosewood ($161–225), but some hotels charge far more: $168–326 at Central Park and $320–556 at Bacara in Santa Barbara.
Is the Ritz Paris a Ritz-Carlton?
No. The Ritz Paris on Place Vendôme is an independent hotel and a member of Leading Hotels of the World; it shares César Ritz's name but not the brand, owner or loyalty program. See our Ritz Paris guide.
Do Marriott elite members get free breakfast at Ritz-Carlton?
No. At The Ritz-Carlton and Ritz-Carlton Reserve, Platinum members and above get 1,000 points as their welcome gift, and elite lounge access isn't offered. Breakfast comes with a Club Level room or with a STARS advisor booking, which adds daily breakfast for two at the same rate as booking direct.
Is Ritz-Carlton Club Level worth it?
Often, at the flagships. The lounge covers breakfast, light meals, evening drinks and canapés, which for two people can match the premium over a standard room, and it is the only way into the lounge because Marriott status doesn't include it. At a resort where you will be out all day, it is less compelling.
Can I use Marriott Bonvoy points at Ritz-Carlton?
Yes, at nearly every Ritz-Carlton and Ritz-Carlton Reserve, at dynamic prices (roughly 90,000–165,000 points a night at the Maldives resort in 2025–26). Five-night award stays get the cheapest night free. The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore doesn't participate in Bonvoy.
Is Ritz-Carlton better than Four Seasons?
Four Seasons has the higher floor and the stronger resort bench; Ritz-Carlton wins on Marriott Bonvoy points, club lounges, coverage and price. Our own numbers bear that out: Four Seasons scores 9.17 across 72 hotels against Ritz-Carlton's 8.89 across 62, while the median Ritz-Carlton's lowest rate on our November, March and July stays was $615, $663 and $676 against $838, $806 and $789 at Four Seasons. We book Four Seasons when the stay matters most and Ritz-Carlton when the points, or the price, do. Luxury hotel brands compared has the full map.
What is the Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection?
Ritz-Carlton's cruise line: three small luxury ships, Evrima (2022), Ilma (2024) and Luminara (2025), carrying 149 to 226 suites and calling at smaller ports that big ships can't reach.
