The Best Hotels in Santiago & Patagonia, Honestly Ranked
The Andes-view capital, the lodges at the end of the world and the desert up north: Chile's 4,000-kilometre luxury spine.
By Biirdee Travel, Luxury Travel Concierge · Updated September 23, 2026

Chile's luxury trip is a two-act play: Santiago, where Mandarin Oriental's lagoon-pool classic, The Ritz-Carlton's polish in El Golf and The Singular's Lastarria boutique (an LHW member) split the capital, then the 3.5-hour flight south to Patagonia, where four very different lodges stage Torres del Paine's granite towers: Tierra Patagonia's wind-sculpted lodge at the park gate, Awasi's private-guide villas on a neighboring reserve, Explora's pioneering lodge on Lake Pehoé inside the park, and The Singular's converted cold-storage plant at Puerto Natales. The Atacama desert, a two-hour flight north of the capital, completes the triptych.
The Short Answers
- Santiago: MO for the resort-in-the-city; The Ritz-Carlton for polish and the glass-domed rooftop pool; The Singular Lastarria for boutique character.
- Patagonia: Tierra for design and the park-gate position; Awasi for a private guide and vehicle per villa; Explora for waking up inside the park; The Singular for the astonishing industrial conversion.
- October–April is the Patagonia season; December–February peaks (book 6+ months out); shoulder months gift solitude.
- The lodges run all-inclusive with guided excursions: the program IS the product; match the lodge to your hiking appetite.
- Add the Atacama (north) for the full Chile triptych: Nayara Alto Atacama and the freshly renovated Tierra Atacama lead the desert.

How to Sequence It
Fly into Santiago and take two nights: MO for comfort-first, The Ritz-Carlton for polish in the El Golf restaurant quarter, The Singular for Lastarria character (Leaders Club benefits attach), the W for rooftop energy. Then south to Puerto Natales. Tierra suits hikers pointed at the park (the base-of-the-towers day is the bucket-list walk); Awasi suits couples and families who want a private guide setting the pace; Explora puts you on Lake Pehoé, inside the park; The Singular suits travelers who want fjords, history and gentler excursions. Many ten-day trips split six nights between two of them, and the W Trek's highlights are day-hikable from all four. Wine country (Casablanca, Colchagua, Vik's Millahue valley) slots between flights, the Atacama adds the desert act, and Buenos Aires pairs across the Andes for the southern-cone double.
Coming next: Explora's ten-room Conservation Reserve lodge, on a private reserve of nearly 15,000 acres facing the towers, takes its first guests in December 2026; ask us for early space.
Chile FAQs
Which Patagonia lodge is best?
Tierra Patagonia for park access and design; Awasi for privacy, with a guide and vehicle per villa; Explora for being inside the park on Lake Pehoé; The Singular for the extraordinary building and fjord setting. Hikers lean Tierra or Explora, couples Awasi; three nights at each of two is the connoisseur play.
When should I visit Patagonia?
October–April, with December–February peak (and peak wind). November and March trade a little warmth for solitude and softer rates. The lodges close in deep winter.
Where should I stay in the Atacama?
Nayara Alto Atacama for the full resort (outdoor pools, a spa, stargazing) in the Catarpe valley just outside San Pedro; Tierra Atacama, renovated in December 2024, for polish a short walk from the village. Both run all-inclusive programs with guided excursions; three or four nights covers the geysers, the salt flats and the high lagoons.
How many days does Chile need?
Ten covers Santiago plus Patagonia properly. Fourteen adds the Atacama for the desert-capital-ice triptych: one of South America's great itineraries.
